Fierce Artistry

The interior design for the Great Room, boasting 22; ceilings in the Sag Harbor $5.5 million Shingle Style Home was created for a very specific 'client'.

THE POWER OF BEAUTY & THE FEMININE PERSPECTIVE

The design of the great room- the heart of the Sag Harbor Shingle Style home-- is envisioned around a specific client-  a prolific female artist with a family, and how she would live and adapt to her space in this very unique time, and how I would design for her love of place and artistry in all its forms.  I show how she is drawn to beauty in many unique forms as an artist, and connected to the natural environment. And in the current times, I thought it was interesting to show how she would adapt her spaces, in real time. The room is a look at how high design spaces can be done at high speed, without sacrificing style, so that she, and we can live our lives at full-bandwidth, whatever comes our way.

My interiors always start with the client as what inspires me. Here, I envisioned designing a home for a prolific female artist.  As head of household, she needs interiors made for living, and with so many of us needing to retrofit a space for more function, I show how fast doesn't have to sacrifice style. This is high design at high speed, to match her wits, with meaning and bespoke style.

Original and bespoke with custom pieces, this room is made for living at full bandwidth - from lounging to soirées to movie nights, interior design is not just for the precious, but rather beauty is born from living in the space, and the rhythm that is created from form and function.

The interior design is envisioned as a home of a prolific artist and head of her household. Her environment is her inspiration with an open atrium of windows connecting her to the natural beauty of Sag Harbor.  The color palette of furnishings is inspired by shells from the bay (noted for their delicate textures and colors) that are also dotted with rounded stones of rich burgundy and brown tones.

With home as a place we use and spend time in now more than ever, the room is functional, versatile and comfortable with storage and a flexible space for WFH, and many conversational nooks created as experiences within experiences. Have a homework help session at the ready in a conversational area abutting a long sideboard, ideal in itself for a workspace.  An original design for the changing way we live in our spaces and what we demand from them was one of the driving forces behind my inspiration behind this interior design.

Bringing the outside in with a live edge coffee table from Industry West, (IndustryWest.com) bespoke furnishings from Brass & Burl (opening Fall 2020, and online all the time at BrassandBurl.com ) and a custom sofa from my own collection of styles and fabrics from American Leather (contact me for a consultationin deep wine velvet show the power of high design at high speed.  My partners not only provide bespoke luxury and interior pieces with style— but they bring them as quickly as you need them.  This space is not only an inspired artists space- showing the connection with color and inventive patterns and texture, but this is a space that shows you can adapt your home quickly without sacrificing style.  Effortless style that wears durably, designed around your life, for your needs, in colors and textures that are beautiful, so living your life doesn’t have to wait for custom to be beautiful.

Stay tuned and watch the design unfold here aren online in the September issue of Cottages & Gardens Magazine (!!!)

Welcome to my point of view & what moves me, available online anytime, starting today! Thank you for visiting the inaugural post of my blog! I am very excited to be doing what I love most- designing for my clients and understanding people so that I can craft spaces that really show who they are. Design is a powerful tool and I am grateful for the medium and love bringing new work to each client that is as original as each of them.

I wanted to create a place we can connect on all things design. Beauty has always stopped me in my tracks and I think its a very powerful thing. We are living in unique times where we're pushed to extremes and balance is more important than ever. Funny enough, the need for balance and the role of home have grown together. Curious, isn't it, that home seems to become all the more important in step with our need for balance?

I've always had the instinct that beauty and design are much more powerful than we give them credit for. I believe they can transform us, ground us, save steps that add up to real impact, and yes, even give us a unique foundation that only our home can give us. Our spaces from home to our favorite cafe or shop helps us thrive at our best, when done right.

So this blog is a celebration of design and all that it brings to our lives. From what I am seeing, to creating, and new innovations in the world of design, that I think you'd like to take note of. Design is a powerful tool and I am here to show the power of that innovation. I think you'll be surprised at the meaning I create and the versatility of design as a tool to make our lives better so we can thrive in spaces that are the best versions of ourselves.

So this blog is a celebration of design and all that it brings to our lives. Thanks for coming and check back often, or better yet subscribe to new posts. We're are excited to 'begin it now' with you!

Cheers to design and all the beauty ahead!
